The new app-based motorcycle taxi service provider, JoyRide expressed their support to the study of motorcycle taxis in the country as the company formally announce its operations in a conference together with members of the media.

Following the endorsement of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and technical working group (TWG) to extend the pilot run of the motorcycle taxis in the country, JoyRide is one of the two additional companies that were added to the motorcycle taxi pilot run scheme. Set to help the TWG to gather data and study the legalization of motorcycle taxis, the three companies, Angkas, JoyRide and MoveIt will be allowed to operate until March 23, 2020, the deadline of the motorcycle taxi pilot run extension.

Present during the press conference was the JoyRide Vice President for Corporate Affairs Noli Eala who assured the riding public that the company has always been compliant with the guidelines set by the DOTr particularly with pricing. “We are compliant with the guidelines on fare matrix with the ‘no price surge’ on our fares. We are very happy because this has gotten a lot of positive feedback from the riding public,” said Eala.

JoyRide has a total of 6,907 registered riders with 1,493 of it are active riders while the remaining 5,414 are riders who are still waiting for activation.

Eala stressed that JoyRide, who is under the logistics company We Move Things Philippines, has been accepting applications and pooling their own riders prior to the company’s submission of application to join the motorcycle taxi pilot run.

JoyRide also shared its process in selecting and approving riders. As per Eala, riders undergo up to 48 hours of seminars and actual riding training as well as motorcycle scrutineering before getting on board JoyRide.

The company is also open to accept riders from other groups provided that they will undergo and be able to pass through JoyRide’s screening process. “Hindi po naming automatic na tatanggapin at patatakbuhin as a JoyRide rider just because they have been a member of another group. They will have to go through the same process,” said Eala.

For the riders’ and passengers’ peace of mind, both are covered with PHP 500,000 worth of insurance each. On top of this, the company also shared that both riders and passengers are also covered with up to PHP 100,000 medical reimbursement in case of accidents. Both riders and passengers are also covered in case of violent death or holdups.

Refuting claims that has been making rounds on social media that Senator Bong Go is one of the people behind JoyRide Philipines, Eala reiterated, “JoyRide is a 100 percent Filipino owned corporation. Senator Bong Go does not own or have any stake in our company, We Move Things Philippines, Inc. or any of its subsidiaries.”

Since starting its operations last December 23, 2019, JoyRide has received a total of 65,000 app downloads from customers.
