The country’s biggest automotive manufacturer, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP), has joined the fray in the Government’s Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) by presenting its challenger to the Class 1 category.

Based on the Hi-Lux cab and chassis model, Toyota’s Class 1 prototype was presented to Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade Sunday morning at the Ayala Country Club by TMP executives headed by Chairman Alfred V. Ty, President Satoru Suzuki, First Vice President for Corporate Affairs Atty. Rommel Gutierrez,  and Vice President for Corporate Planning and Public Relations Allen Rufo.

Toyota’s Class 1 prototype has a 12-passenger capacity and is powered by a Euro4 compliant diesel engine. The passenger cabin has side-facing seats and is accessible through a door that opens on the right-hand side of the vehicle. In compliance with the PUVMP guidelines, the vehicle is fitted with air-conditioning, CCTV, GPS, wi-fi, AFCS, Dashcam, and is PWD-Friendly.

The development of Toyota’s Class 1 prototype has been in the works for several months now with the DOTr closely working with the car manufacturer.  This is the first-ever prototype unveiled that conforms to the DOTr’s Omnibus Franchise Guidelines (OFG).

Priced at PHP 998,000, the Toyota Modern PUV meets the appeal of Sec. Tugade for the Class 1 challenger to be priced under a million pesos.

“Modernization is not expensive, provided that you make the right choice. There is always a cheaper alternative,” Secretary Tugade said.

TMP proudly presented the Hilux modern PUV which they believe will be a significant contribution to the government’s efforts in the modernization program. Toyota is certain that the Hilux modern PUV will provide drivers, passengers and operators a safe, reliable, and affordable Class 1 PUV.
The Toyota Hilux is a tried and tested vehicle around the world and is well known for its excellent quality and dependability.

After garnering the approval of the Transport Secretary, Tugade hopes that Toyota can come out with the production version of the vehicle soon so that it can be put into service right away.
