Harley-Davidson Factory Racing debuts 2024 Road Glide racebike at MotoGP Test in Barcelona

Harley-Davidson Factory Racing showcased the formidable performance of its race-prepared 2024 Road Glide motorcycle during a special test session held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Montmeló, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The test was conducted in partnership with DORNA and MotoGP, the premier class of motorcycle road racing governed by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). Originally slated for Valencia, the event was relocated due to severe flooding in the region. As part of relief efforts, Harley-Davidson donated a Road Glide motorcycle to be auctioned for MotoGP’s recovery initiatives.

The test marked the first European track appearance of the Harley-Davidson Factory Racing Road Glide motorcycle, which competes in the U.S. in the Mission Foods King of the Baggers series. Factory riders Kyle Wyman and James Rispoli took to the renowned 4.657 km (2.894 mi), 16-turn circuit on Monday following the MotoGP race. They were joined by legendary guest riders, including former MotoGP and World Superbike icons Simon Crafar, John Hopkins, Randy Mamola, and Marco Melandri.

“Racing is a core pillar of the Harley-Davidson brand, showcasing our commitment to performance and innovation,” said Jochen Zeitz, Chairman, President, and CEO of Harley-Davidson. “Through our collaboration with DORNA and MotoGP, we aim to extend our global racing footprint, inspiring our customers and fans. This test is a critical step in advancing those goals and demonstrating our dedication to racing excellence.”

Memorable Moments on the Track
Reflecting on the experience, Wyman said, “Riding alongside our heroes and sharing our work with people we deeply respect was unforgettable. These moments are truly special. I’m grateful to DORNA, Harley-Davidson, and everyone who made this event possible despite recent challenges.”

Rispoli echoed the sentiment, saying, “What an incredible day for Harley-Davidson. Being on track during a MotoGP weekend and sharing our project with legends of the sport was surreal. Their reactions to our bikes were priceless.”

Despite overcast and cool conditions limiting outright lap times, Wyman and Rispoli achieved measured top speeds exceeding 171 MPH (275 KPH) on the circuit’s fastest section. The guest riders later took turns testing the Road Glide motorcycles, praising their unique blend of power and agility:

  • Simon Crafar: “The engine is amazing—so smooth and powerful. I’d love to own one as a street bike.”
  • John Hopkins: “It was wild! The handling is incredible, and it was such a fun ride.”
  • Randy Mamola: “The torque and smoothness are fantastic. It’s a true race bike in every sense.”
  • Marco Melandri: “As I tested the lean angles, the bike felt lighter and more responsive. The engine and torque are phenomenal.”
