The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has announced an extension for all motor vehicle registrations and driver’s licenses originally set to expire on September 30, 2025. LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II confirmed that the new deadline is October 3, 2025, with late renewal penalties suspended until then.
The move aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ease the burden on the public following recent weather disturbances. Acting Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Giovanni Z. Lopez also backed the decision. Mendoza added that a memorandum has already been circulated to regional and district offices to implement the order.
Under the directive, all licenses and registrations expiring on September 30 will remain valid through October 3. Mendoza emphasized that no penalties will be imposed during this period. The extension also applies to traffic apprehension cases. Drivers who were supposed to settle their violations by September 26 now have until October 3 to do so.
The LTO noted that the adjustment was partly prompted by the suspension of government work across Metro Manila and other regions due to strong rains and multiple cyclones. Among these were Typhoon Opong, tropical cyclones Mirasol and Nando, which disrupted daily activities across the Bicol Region, the Visayas, and parts of southern Luzon. The southwest monsoon, also known as “Habagat,” further exacerbated conditions, bringing sustained heavy rainfall.
Mendoza emphasized that the extension is intended to alleviate the challenges faced by motorists who were unable to process renewals due to circumstances beyond their control. He urged vehicle owners and license holders to make use of the additional days and complete their renewals to avoid problems once the new deadline passes.
