ABMAP Supports BBM’s Call to Improve Commuter Experience

The Automotive Body Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (ABMAP) welcomes President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to newly appointed Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon to prioritize commuter welfare. ABMAP firmly believes that the key to achieving this is through the full implementation of the Public Transport Modernization Program (PTMP), designed to make public transport safer, more efficient, and more commuter-friendly.

“We fully support the government’s commitment to improving public transport,” said ABMAP Executive Director Edgar Manuel. “Modernization is not just about upgrading vehicles—it’s about transforming the commuting experience. By adopting safer, more efficient, and eco-friendly vehicles, we create a transport system that benefits everyone.”

The PTMP aims to replace outdated public utility vehicles (PUVs) with modern, Euro 4-compliant units that provide better comfort, fuel efficiency, and lower emissions. Equipped with air-conditioning, GPS tracking, CCTV cameras, and cashless payment options, these vehicles significantly enhance commuter convenience and security.

“Commuters have already made their choice. We see it every day—people letting old jeepneys pass, waiting instead for modern units. This is undeniable proof that they value safety, reliability, and comfort,” Manuel emphasized.

ABMAP also pointed out that modernization is beneficial for all stakeholders, including transport operators and drivers. Newer, better-maintained vehicles mean reduced fuel and maintenance costs, while organized fleet operations lead to more efficient and sustainable businesses.

“We understand the challenges in transitioning, but modernization does not mean eliminating traditional jeepneys—it means improving them,” Manuel clarified. “We need a transport system that addresses the needs of today’s commuters while securing a sustainable future for drivers and operators.”

As a dedicated advocate for the local automotive body manufacturing industry, ABMAP is prepared to collaborate with the DOTr and other stakeholders to ensure a smooth and inclusive implementation of the PTMP.

“We encourage all sectors to support this initiative. Our goal is clear: a modern, efficient public transport system that truly serves the people,” Manuel concluded.

With government backing and Secretary Vince Dizon’s leadership, ABMAP remains optimistic that transport modernization will continue, making daily commutes safer, more convenient, and more efficient for millions of Filipinos.
