Toyota GAZOO Racing Completes Productive Le Mans Test Day with #8 GR010 Fastest Overall

Toyota GAZOO Racing concluded a successful official test day at the Circuit de la Sarthe as it ramps up efforts to secure a sixth Le Mans 24 Hours title. Held in preparation for the race on 14–15 June, the test marked the only opportunity for teams to run on the 13.626km track ahead of race week.

The team’s pair of GR010 HYBRIDs, dressed in unique liveries celebrating four decades since Toyota’s first appearance at Le Mans, completed extensive test programmes without any technical issues. The #8 car of Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa led the timing sheets with a best lap of 3:26.246. The #7 entry of Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Nyck de Vries placed 14th, showcasing a livery that echoes the design of the 1998 GT-One.

Preparation for the test began days earlier, following a shakedown at Spa-Francorchamps. The team’s logistical setup included installation of full working facilities at the circuit. On Saturday, both entries completed scrutineering and joined the traditional city parade, with Kobayashi driving the #7 through the streets of Le Mans.

Track action on Sunday began in cool but dry conditions. The team completed tyre comparisons using both soft and medium Michelin compounds, along with various mechanical setup tests including in-session suspension changes. Despite a 40-minute safety car in the morning and multiple red flags in the afternoon, both sessions yielded valuable data.

Buemi’s puncture late in the day was the only incident, but he managed to return to the pits without further complications. Looking ahead, both cars will be rebuilt and prepared for Wednesday’s official practice and qualifying sessions. The team will also conduct detailed analysis to refine setup and strategy.

Kamui Kobayashi:
“We’ve made a positive start. It’s a unique feeling driving here, and it’s always exciting to return. The test went smoothly, but we still have areas to improve.”

Mike Conway:
“It’s good to be back in the car at Le Mans. The circuit always brings something special. We’ve made progress, and there’s more to come.”

Nyck de Vries:
“We had to work on car balance and lost some running due to red flags. But we’ve gathered useful insights to help prepare for race week.”

Sébastien Buemi:
“Setting the fastest time was great, but more importantly, we had productive runs. We’ll continue fine-tuning, especially with possible weather changes in mind.”

Brendon Hartley:
“Everything ran smoothly today. All three drivers were comfortable in the car, and while the field is competitive, we feel confident heading into race week.”

Ryo Hirakawa:
“We managed to check most of the items on our list. The car felt good and consistent, but we know we can extract even more performance.”
