Isuzu Heart and Smile Project Marks 23rd Batch of Automotive Servicing Graduates

Fifteen scholars from Batch 23 of the Isuzu Heart and Smile Project (IHSP) graduated on June 20, 2025, from the Isuzu-TESDA Auto Mechanic Training Center in Tacloban, Leyte. Each graduate received an NC IV Certificate, completing the highest level of the two-year Automotive Servicing Course.

The IHSP is a joint initiative of Isuzu Motors Limited Japan, TESDA, and World Vision, aimed at empowering underprivileged youth through technical training and career opportunities. Established in 2008, the program delivers a comprehensive curriculum that merges TESDA’s automotive servicing modules with specialized training in Isuzu diesel systems and practical skill-building.

To date, 436 students have completed the program, which has produced a 94.3% employment rate. Of these, 67% are employed in the Philippines, while 24% work overseas, and 3% are self-employed. Graduates now contribute to the global automotive sector across key markets, including Japan, Australia, the UAE, and the United States.

Tetsuya Ikemoto of Isuzu Motors Limited emphasized the increasing relevance of technical skills in a growing industry. “The auto industry in the Philippines continues to expand. With this growth comes a greater need for skilled professionals, and IHSP graduates are well-positioned to meet that demand,” he noted.

The graduation ceremony also served as a welcome for the 27th batch of scholars, composed of 18 new students. To inspire the incoming class, ongoing scholars from batches 24 to 26 gave a skills demonstration, while top-performing students from the graduating class were honored.

Mikio Tsukui, President of Isuzu Philippines Corporation, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to nurturing young talent. “We are honored to support the journey of these scholars as they prepare to become professionals who will contribute to their communities, to Isuzu, and beyond,” said Tsukui.

Seventeen years on, the Isuzu Heart and Smile Project remains a testament to the company’s role as a responsible partner in education and community development.
