Two months ago, talk of a new Toyota Hilux began circulating, pointing to a tougher exterior and a refreshed interior. Now, fresh details from Thai outlet Car250 confirm that the next-generation Hilux is set for its world debut before the end of 2025.
According to the report, Toyota is lining up the launch for November 28 at this year’s Moto Expo in Thailand. Interestingly, the brand is also said to be preparing a split strategy for the Hilux range—higher-spec models aimed at lifestyle buyers and off-road enthusiasts, and more basic trims designed to serve business and fleet operators.
The next-generation Hilux is expected to keep its IMV2 platform, the same architecture that underpins the current model. For long-time Hilux owners, this should bring a sense of familiarity, though Toyota engineers are reportedly working to improve the suspension. The goal is to deliver a ride that feels more planted and less bouncy when tackling uneven terrain.

Under the hood, the 2.8-liter turbo diesel engine stays, but with meaningful updates. Toyota is retuning the motor for better efficiency, with gains of around 5 to 7 percent anticipated. A new start-stop system will also be introduced, automatically shutting off the engine at idle and restarting it seamlessly once the driver releases the brake or engages the clutch. Both manual and automatic transmissions will remain part of the lineup.
Perhaps the biggest news, however, is the addition of an electric Hilux. While Car250 held back on full details, it mentioned the possibility of dual motors and an all-wheel-drive setup for the BEV variant. This aligns with the electrified Hilux concept Toyota showcased last year, originally promised for release in Thailand.
As with previous Hilux generations, Thailand will lead the way, followed by Australia and the rest of the region. For the Philippines, one of Toyota’s strongest markets in Southeast Asia, it’s only a matter of time before Toyota Motor Philippines brings in the all-new Hilux.
