The Automotive Body Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (ABMAP) fully backs the continued implementation of the Public Transport Modernization Program (PMTP), reaffirming its alignment with Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon’s push for progress.

ABMAP Executive Director Edgar Manuel stressed the urgency of upgrading public transport to ensure safer, more efficient, and environmentally responsible mobility solutions.

“Modernization is a necessary evolution for public transport. The shift to Euro 4-compliant vehicles not only enhances road safety and reliability but also helps reduce harmful emissions,” Manuel stated. “Our members are ready to support operators and cooperatives in this transition by providing high-quality vehicles that meet global standards.”

Since its introduction in 2017, the PMTP has aimed to improve fleet management through vehicle upgrades and cooperative consolidation. ABMAP believes that these measures will lead to a more structured and sustainable transport system.

“Modernization isn’t about removing jeepneys—it’s about improving them,” Manuel clarified. “A well-planned transition will benefit both operators and commuters by ensuring a better, safer transport experience.”

ABMAP pledges its continued cooperation with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to drive a modernization program that is equitable, sustainable, and beneficial to all stakeholders.
