The CAL inspection process is a comprehensive six-step procedure that each vehicle passes through before being delivered globally. The process incorporates advanced technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI) checks, along with thorough inspections of the paint, panels, interior, lighting, and electrical systems. It also includes a test on a 320-meter-long squeak-and-rattle track that simulates real-world driving conditions.
The CAL Inspection Process:
Step 1: Dark Room In a completely dark environment, inspectors check the head and tail lamps, instrument cluster, SYNC®2 screen, and all interior lighting for proper brightness and alignment.
Step 2: Hands-On Inspection Inspectors meticulously examine every surface, feeling for imperfections and ensuring precise panel alignment. Every button, switch, and control is tested for functionality.
Step 3: Systems Check A comprehensive diagnostic test is performed to verify that all electrical components are properly connected and functioning.
Step 4: AI Eyes Ford’s Mobile Artificial Intelligence Vision System (MAIVS) uses advanced algorithms to scan the vehicle’s exterior for any imperfections, such as crooked or missing badges.
Step 5: Rainstorm Simulation The Leak Test simulates a heavy downpour, with high-pressure water jets targeting the vehicle from every angle. Each light and seal is thoroughly checked for water tightness.
Step 6: Squeak-and-Rattle Track The vehicle is driven on a 320-meter-long track designed to replicate various real-world surfaces, from uneven cobblestones to angled iron, ensuring that no squeaks or rattles are present and that the suspension and steering perform optimally.
