Green GSM, the region’s first fully electric ride-hailing platform created by Vietnam’s Green and Smart Mobility Joint Stock Company (GSM), has been awarded the Green Leadership accolade at the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA) 2025 in Bangkok. This distinction recognizes the company’s role in building a practical and scalable model for sustainable urban transport.
AREA, established by Enterprise Asia in 2011, is regarded as a leading recognition program for businesses committed to sustainability, innovation, and social impact. The 2025 theme, “A Necessary Shift to a Regenerative Economy,” calls for business models that help restore natural ecosystems while creating long-term value.
Green GSM was cited for its ecosystem-based strategy that includes owning and managing its own EV fleet, providing a digital platform (Xanh SM) that integrates individual VinFast EV owners, and forging alliances with conventional taxi operators to help electrify their services. These components are already operational in select overseas markets and are part of the company’s planned roadmap for wider regional deployment.
“Sustainability is ingrained in our company culture, not just our policies,” said Ms. Phan Thi Hong Dung, Director of Training and Culture Development at GSM. “Every decision we make reflects a commitment to a greener, more responsible way of living. Each ride we facilitate helps reduce emissions and inspires broader environmental consciousness.”
The award is a testament to Vietnam’s growing influence in the regional green economy. Green GSM’s progress demonstrates how local innovation can address global sustainability goals through measurable and inclusive action.
Since launching two years ago, Green GSM has extended its presence beyond Vietnam into Laos, Indonesia, and the Philippines. The company has recorded over 300 million trips totaling 1.7 billion kilometers of emissions-free travel. This achievement translates to more than 211,000 tons of avoided CO₂ emissions—comparable to the carbon absorption capacity of roughly 3,200 hectares of forestland.
Domestically, GSM has established a dominant position in Vietnam’s EV taxi segment with close to 40% market share and active collaborations with nearly 100 local transport providers. Well-established operators like G7 Taxi, Mai Linh, Lado Taxi, and En Vang are now part of the electrification shift, with 19 of them fully converting their fleets. This movement signals that electric mobility is becoming a mainstream standard, not a niche alternative.
With operations now in four Southeast Asian countries, Green GSM is the second-largest ride-hailing platform in the region and the only one fully powered by electric vehicles. Its public launch in Metro Manila last June 10, 2025, marks the latest step in bringing its sustainable transport vision to more urban centers across Asia.
