Kalayaan Cup Showcases Mazda Philippines’ Endurance Racing Leadership and Talent Development

The 2025 Petron Makabayan Endurance Race’s second leg, held at the Clark International Speedway, highlighted Mazda Philippines’ commitment to performance, innovation, and motorsport talent development through a strong showing from two Mazda-backed teams.

Leading the charge was the #55 MSCC Miata Spec, captained by Angie Mead King. The car delivered a dominant performance, completing 293 laps in the 12-hour Kalayaan Cup and achieving a best lap time of 2:07.255. Backed by co-drivers Juha Turalba, Matt Solomon, Milo Rivera, and Tyson Sy, the team maintained a commanding lead with a five-lap advantage over the competition. A refined race setup, including a quicker fueling system and improved tire selection, contributed to the vehicle’s consistent pace.

This latest victory builds on the team’s momentum from the previous round, with the ultra-lightweight #55 Miata Spec car again proving the effectiveness of its high-performance components, including Brembo brakes, Cusco suspension, and a 6-speed sequential gearbox.

Equally significant was the debut of the MSCC Mazda Driver Development Program, represented by Bermaz Team 09. Under the guidance of Windy Imperial, the team fielded a specially modified MSCC Miata Spec car and a lineup of emerging talent: Javier Toledo, Jeff Balao, and Enzo Celestino. Despite limited endurance racing experience, the team achieved a strong second runner-up finish, completing 279 laps with a best lap time of 2:15.141.

The #09 car, originally built for sprint races, was adapted to endure the rigors of long-distance competition with key enhancements such as Winmax brake pads, Concept One wheels, and GT Radial SX-R tires. More than just a racing entry, this car serves as the foundation for Mazda Philippines’ new program aimed at developing future racing professionals.

“The program is designed to broaden the skillset of high-potential MSCC drivers through endurance racing,” said Windy Imperial. “These young drivers not only completed the race but did so with remarkable focus and composure.”

Mazda Philippines continues to underscore its motorsport presence by pairing engineering performance with driver mentorship. For both King and Imperial, the effort extends beyond the race results—it is about building a community that thrives on discipline, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
