MPT South Corporation, the operator of the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) and Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), has partnered with Maynilad Water Services, Inc. to donate ₱500,000 worth of rice to local fisherfolk in Cavite. This support comes in the wake of the devastating oil spill and the destruction caused by Typhoon Carina, significantly impacting the fishing communities.
The donation was officially presented to former Governor Jonvic C. Remulla, benefitting the coastal areas of Cavite City, Bacoor City, as well as the municipalities of Noveleta, Rosario, Kawit, Tanza, Naic, Maragondon, and Ternate.
The crisis began with the MT Terannova oil spill, which released 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel into the sea, further exacerbated by Typhoon Carina’s impact on Cavite’s coastal communities. Fisherfolk, who rely on these waters for their livelihoods, have been particularly hard hit and are struggling to recover from these simultaneous disasters.
MPT South President and General Manager, Raul L. Ignacio, expressed, “We recognize the vital role that fisherfolk play in supporting the livelihoods of Caviteños and the province’s food supply. The calamities they face disrupt not only their lives but also the entire agricultural ecosystem. Our donation is intended to provide immediate relief and foster hope for recovery within these communities.”
Maynilad President Ramon S. Fernandez also emphasized the urgent need to support affected fisherfolk during this difficult period.

MPT South Corporation is a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), which operates various expressways including CAVITEX, CALAX, North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), NLEX Connector, and Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).
