Toyota Motor Philippines brought high-octane excitement to motorsport fans with the second Race Weekend of the 2025 TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippine Cup, held from May 23 to 25 at Villar City. Over 12,000 attendees gathered for an immersive experience in racing, music, and mobility innovations.
The event featured a dynamic 2.4-kilometer street circuit with 14 challenging turns—offering spectators edge-of-the-seat action from racers in the Novice, Sporting, Super Sporting, and Legacy classes.
A dramatic moment unfolded during the Novice Class race when TMP President Masando Hashimoto overturned his Vios OMR car after striking a barrier. He exited the vehicle safely, unharmed, underscoring the effectiveness of Toyota’s safety engineering.
“The car flipped over and stopped completely, but I walked away without a single scratch. Though the car was damaged, it did its job—keeping the driver safe. Toyota’s commitment to safety was truly proven on the track,” President Hashimoto remarked.
TMP has been running the Vios OMR platform for the past 11 years, purpose-built for racing with essential safety modifications such as roll cages, racing seats with 5-point harnesses, and HANS-compatible helmets and suits. These standards reflect Toyota’s broader safety philosophy, also evident in its consumer models with features like Toyota Safety Sense and multi-layered safety systems.
The race series is conducted in partnership with the Automobile Association Philippines, ensuring compliance with global safety protocols. TGR’s vision, rooted in Chairman Akio Toyoda’s philosophy of “driving, breaking, and fixing,” continues to guide Toyota’s push toward building better, safer cars through motorsport development.
Adding variety to the race lineup, Toyota unveiled the Tamaraw Racing Concept—a reimagined version of the Tamaraw Dropside—as part of the Drag Race Exhibition. This prototype highlights Toyota’s direction in merging utility and performance.
Beyond motorsport, fans enjoyed the Toyota Drive Fest, which featured test drives, vehicle showcases, and special promotions across various product lines, including GR, HEV, and Lexus F SPORT. Pre-owned vehicle options were also available through T-SURE’s certified display units.
Evenings were headlined by live concerts from Rico Blanco, Parokya ni Edgar, Ely Buendia, and Bamboo, elevating the experience with top-tier local music performances.
Race Weekend 3 of the 2025 TGR Philippine Cup is set for August at Clark International Speedway. Fans are encouraged to follow TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippines across social media platforms for updates and highlights.
The TGR Philippine Cup is officially sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and made possible with support from Petron, GT Radial, Villar City, Brittany, Seiko, Toyota Financial Services, and other partners. Full details can be found at https://toyota.com.ph/tgrphilippines.
