Motorists using the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) will see higher toll fees starting November 19, 2024, as the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) implements the second tranche of toll rate adjustments. This adjustment, originally due in 2021 and 2023, adds ₱0.64 per kilometer for Class 1 vehicles, ₱1.29 per kilometer for Class 2 vehicles, and ₱1.93 per kilometer for Class 3 vehicles.
The TRB’s decision follows a comprehensive review and regulatory process, ensuring the adjustments align with the approved periodic toll rate increases. To minimize the financial impact on motorists, the implementation was deferred and divided into three tranches, with the first tranche introduced on October 17, 2023.
How Much More Will You Pay?
Here’s a breakdown of the additional toll charges for popular SCTEX routes:
- Mabalacat City (Mabiga Interchange) to Tarlac:
- Class 1 (Cars/SUVs): Additional ₱25
- Class 2 (Buses/Small Commercial Trucks): Additional ₱50
- Class 3 (Large Trucks/Trailers): Additional ₱75
- Mabalacat City to Tipo, Hermosa, Bataan (near Subic Freeport):
- Class 1: Additional ₱41
- Class 2: Additional ₱81
- Class 3: Additional ₱121
These rate changes aim to provide the operator with the resources needed to maintain and improve the expressway, ensuring safer and more convenient travel for users.
Infrastructure Improvements: Where Your Money Goes
Over the past three years, SCTEX has undertaken significant infrastructure upgrades and maintenance projects. These initiatives include:
- Installing and upgrading roadway lighting and signage for better visibility and guidance
- Enhancing toll plazas and maintaining key infrastructure
- Replacing pavement, sealing cracks, and repairing guardrails and fences
- Upgrading RFID and toll collection systems for faster and more efficient transactions
- Undertaking major projects like the Dinalupihan road raising and repairs to the Porac Gumain, San Matias, and Pasig Potrero bridges
- Constructing rainwater collection systems in the Floridablanca and Dinalupihan rest bays to address flooding concerns
These projects underline the commitment to providing a reliable and safe experience for all motorists traveling along the SCTEX.
A Balanced Approach
The gradual implementation of the toll hike reflects a balance between addressing the operator’s financial requirements and minimizing the impact on commuters. By spacing the adjustments over three years, TRB aims to cushion the toll increase’s effect amid ongoing economic challenges.
For regular updates and advisories, motorists are encouraged to monitor SCTEX’s official channels.
