VolvoPH and DLSU Launch Volvo Safety Labs to Drive Road Safety Innovation

Volvo Philippines, under the distributorship of Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI), has strengthened its longstanding partnership with De La Salle University (DLSU) through the launch of the Volvo Safety Labs—an applied innovation program designed to address road safety challenges at the community level.

Formalized during the inaugural Voice of Volvo forum on May 30, 2025, in Makati City, the renewed collaboration was sealed through a Memorandum of Understanding signed by both institutions. The event convened stakeholders from government, industry, and academia to advance dialogue and cooperation on national road safety policies and practices.

The Volvo Safety Labs will serve as a platform for applied research and innovation, housed at the Richard L. Lee Engineering and Technology Block in DLSU’s Laguna Campus—a facility made possible through HARI’s support. This center now stands as DLSU’s flagship hub for scientific inquiry aligned with real-world applications.

“Our goal is not only to develop safer vehicles but to help shape a society that values discipline, collaboration, and care on and off the road,” said HARI Vice Chair, President, and CEO Maria Fe Perez-Agudo. “Through this initiative, we aim to foster a sense of collective accountability for public safety and inspire long-term behavioral change.”

DLSU Vice President for Research and Innovation, Prof. Raymond Girard R. Tan, emphasized the university’s role in shaping the future of mobility. “This project challenges our students to translate academic knowledge into concrete solutions. We are preparing the next generation to build a safer transportation environment—solutions that are inclusive, data-driven, and sustainable.”

The Volvo Safety Labs support the broader Being Alive advocacy of Volvo Philippines, which advances a people-first approach to mobility. Beyond technology, the advocacy promotes a culture where road safety is seen as a shared responsibility among all sectors of society.
