EVAP Stands Behind EVIDA Law, Keeping a Close Eye on EVIS Rollout

The Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) is reaffirming its strong support for the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA) as the country continues to push for wider electric vehicle (EV) adoption. As a key player in the industry, EVAP is working hand in hand with the government and stakeholders to ensure the law is implemented effectively, paving the way for a stronger and more sustainable EV ecosystem in the Philippines.

One of EVIDA’s most anticipated components is the Electric Vehicle Incentives Scheme (EVIS), designed to boost investments, encourage local EV manufacturing, and make electric vehicles more affordable for Filipino consumers. EVAP is keeping a close watch on its progress, actively engaging with policymakers to ensure the incentives work for both businesses and end users.

EVAP President Edmund Araga believes a well-executed EVIS is crucial in driving the country toward greener mobility. “The EVIDA law has laid the groundwork for a thriving EV industry in the Philippines. If EVIS is implemented properly, it will be a game-changer—lowering the cost of EVs, encouraging investment in charging stations, and supporting local EV production,” Araga said.

The EVIDA law assigns several government agencies to oversee various incentives, from tax breaks and lower import duties to perks like priority registration and designated parking for EVs. These measures aim to make EV ownership more attractive and push businesses to invest in much-needed charging infrastructure.

EVAP is continuously working with the Department of Energy, the Department of Trade and Industry, and other agencies to align policies with the needs of the industry. The association is also addressing concerns from different stakeholders, such as clarifications on incentive qualifications, regulatory requirements, and technical standards.

Beyond policy work, EVAP is a driving force in spreading EV awareness through initiatives like the Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS). This annual event gathers industry experts, government officials, and EV enthusiasts to talk about the latest developments, showcase new electric vehicles, and explore ways to accelerate the country’s shift to e-mobility.

Araga remains optimistic about the future of EVs in the country. “For EVIDA and EVIS to succeed, we need strong collaboration between the government and private sector. The goal is clear—more accessible EVs, a solid charging network, and a booming local EV industry that benefits all Filipinos,” he said.

As the shift to electric mobility gains momentum, EVAP is staying at the forefront, championing policies and programs that will shape the future of sustainable transportation in the Philippines. The association is calling on all stakeholders to work together in driving the country toward a cleaner, more efficient, and electrified future.
