Harley-Davidson Unveils Limited-Edition Fat Boy Gray Ghost Model

Fifth Release in Icons Motorcycle Collection Marks 35 Years of the Fat Custom Legacy

Harley-Davidson proudly introduces the Fat Boy Gray Ghost, the latest addition to its Icons Motorcycle Collection. This limited-edition model commemorates the 35th anniversary of the iconic Fat Boy, a motorcycle that has become a cultural symbol and one of the most instantly recognizable machines on the road.

The Icons Motorcycle Collection comprises annual, limited-run models that reimagine classic Harley-Davidson motorcycles with unique styling and features. Each model is serialized and includes enhancements beyond the base specification. Global production of the Fat Boy Gray Ghost is capped at 1,990 units, a tribute to the year the original Fat Boy was launched in 1990.

Design That Honors a Legend

The Fat Boy Gray Ghost showcases a distinct Reflection finish, developed using a physical vapor deposition (PVD) process. This method vaporizes a solid aluminum alloy in a vacuum, bonding the material to the fuel tank and fenders before applying a clear coat. While PVD has previously been used on smaller parts such as tank medallions and exhaust shields, this marks the first application on major body panels for a production Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The result is a striking chrome-like appearance that meets the brand’s rigorous standards for corrosion resistance.

Complementing the Reflection finish are chrome side covers and a bright silver powder-coated frame. Design elements inspired by the original Fat Boy include a round air cleaner, yellow accents on the powertrain and tank console, and nostalgic touches like a leather seat valance with lacing and tassels, and a black leather tank strap with laced edging. A serialized console insert and Icons Collection medallion complete the commemorative details.

Exclusive Lakester cast aluminum wheels and Michelin Scorcher 11 tires (160/60R18 front, 240/40R18 rear) reinforce the motorcycle’s bold stance.

Performance and Technology Updates

The Fat Boy Gray Ghost incorporates performance and technological updates shared with the 2025 Fat Boy model:

  • Milwaukee-Eight 117 Powertrain: Tuned for 101 horsepower (75 kW) and 122 lb. ft. (171 Nm) of torque—representing a 7% increase in horsepower and 3% increase in torque compared to the 2024 Fat Boy 114.
    • Features include a 2-into-2 exhaust, lightweight mufflers tuned for a deeper tone, revised cylinder heads for better combustion, and a frame-mounted oil cooler with head-integrated cooling passages.
  • Enhanced Suspension: 49 mm dual-bending valve forks and an under-seat hydraulic preload adjustment system improve ride comfort and handling across various conditions.

  • Convenience Features:
    • A new USB-C power port replaces the previous USB-A, allowing faster data transfer and easier device compatibility.
    • Heated gear connectors have been relocated to a more accessible position beneath the seat.
    • A new 5-inch console-mounted display combines an analog speedometer with a digital LCD readout, controlled via a handlebar-mounted Trip button.

A Heritage of Innovation

First introduced in 1990, the Fat Boy emerged during an era dominated by sport bikes. Its bold styling and solid disc wheels set it apart, capturing attention in pop culture, notably in the film “Terminator 2: Judgment Day,” which helped cement its global recognition. Originally conceived as a short-term concept, the Fat Boy has endured across three generations of powertrains and a full Softail chassis redesign while maintaining its unmistakable silhouette and enduring appeal.
