Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition Debuts at Sports Cars for a Cause

The Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition made its Asia debut outside Japan at the Sports Cars for a Cause (SCFC) charity event in Bonifacio Global City. First unveiled at the Mazda Fan Festa in November at Fuji Speedway, this special edition celebrates 35 years of the iconic roadster, first introduced at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show.

As one of the country’s largest sports car gatherings, SCFC brought together over 200 vehicles along 4th Avenue and 27th Street in Bonifacio Global City on February 23. The MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition took center stage, capturing the attention of car enthusiasts and event attendees alike.

“Mazda Philippines is honored to support the BGC Car Club and NEO in this meaningful event,” said Steven Tan, president of Mazda Philippines. “The spirit of charity and camaraderie in the Manila sports car community made this the perfect occasion to showcase the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition. Just like the event’s organizers, the MX-5 enjoys a passionate following, solidifying its legacy as the world’s best-selling sports car since 1989.”

Limited to just 15 units in the Philippines and priced at PHP 2,490,000, this commemorative model encapsulates more than three decades of pure driving excitement that only a lightweight sports car can deliver.

Following its SCFC debut, the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition will be on display at the North Court of Power Plant Mall in Rockwell, Makati, from February 25 to March 2, 2025.

This exclusive edition retains the MX-5’s signature sporty silhouette while incorporating upscale, model-specific enhancements. It features Mazda’s Artisan Red Premium Metallic paint, the brand’s fourth Takuminuri special color. This three-layer finish produces a deep, dark red hue, complemented by a tan soft top and bright silver 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels. A serialized badge on the driver’s rear fender adds a unique touch.

Inside, the upper door panels and AC vents match the exterior, showcasing the rich, color-shifting properties of Artisan Red Premium Metallic. The interior exudes a classic sports car aesthetic, featuring heated tan Nappa leather seats embossed with the exclusive “35th Anniversary” logo, along with matching tan carpeting and floor mats.

Technologically advanced, the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition is equipped with an 8.8-inch infotainment display powered by the latest-generation Mazda Connect, featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual USB Type-C ports, automatic climate control, rain-sensing wipers, and a premium 9-speaker Bose sound system.

Under the hood, it is powered by a 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine, delivering 184 PS at 7,000 rpm and 205 Nm at 4,000 rpm. This powerplant is exclusively paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

Like other 2025 MX-5 MT variants, the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition enhances Mazda’s “Jinba-Ittai” philosophy of driver-car unity with two new track-developed technologies: DSC-TRACK mode and an Asymmetric Limited Slip Differential. These innovations, combined with sport-tuned Bilstein dampers, elevate the car’s dynamic performance.

“This special edition is 35 years in the making. The 2025 MX-5 is the most refined and capable version of our roadster to date. We are grateful to the over 1,500 MX-5 owners in the Philippines who have embraced this iconic vehicle. It is a privilege to share this milestone with our passionate MX-5 community,” Tan concluded.
