BJ Mercantile Inc. (BJM) continues to expand its presence in the commercial transport sector through a strategic partnership with THACO, Vietnam’s largest automotive manufacturer. With the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, BJM is set to become the exclusive distributor for THACO trucks and buses in the Philippines, covering all aspects of sales, service, and spare parts.
BJM’s history in the automotive industry dates back to 1974, starting as a small importer of used engines and trucks. Over the decades, it has grown into a multi-industry group with operations in logistics, petroleum, marine transport, real estate, and cold chain solutions. This new partnership marks another step forward in its mission to offer dependable and competitive mobility solutions for the Philippine market.
“We welcome this new chapter with THACO as it enables us to expand our offerings to the growing commercial vehicle sector,” said Leilani Lim Tan, Vice President of BJM. “THACO’s reputation for quality and value aligns with our standards and long-standing commitment to our customers.”
THACO’s lineup includes light-duty trucks and full-sized buses, built on robust Chinese chassis platforms. These vehicles are known for fuel efficiency, reliability, and suitability for tropical climates—key attributes that cater to the needs of Philippine logistics, construction, and public transport sectors. Manufactured at the Chu Lai Truong Hai Industrial Complex, one of Southeast Asia’s most advanced automotive hubs, THACO’s products combine high production standards with market relevance.
This partnership further enriches BJM’s portfolio of automotive brands, which includes Scania, Ashok-Leyland, Fuso, and Hongqi, reinforcing its position as a key player in the Philippine commercial vehicle market.
